Arsenal’s Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Silva is concerned that the talented youngsters at the Emirates Stadium could soopn become disillusuioned and restless unless manager Arsene Wenger signs some big-name stars.Arsenal have already lost Mathieu Flamini jump ship to join Milan, and Alexander Hleb’s agent confirmed today that the Belarussian playmaker is also determined to leave.
Marseille’s Samir Nasri will reportedly join the Gunners on Monday, and Gilberto reckons it is time to underline that Arsenal are a big club by splashing the cash on other top stars.
“I think Arsene needs to bring in some players to compete with the other big teams,†Brazilian World Cup winner Gilberto told The Daily Star.
“They [the other ‘Big Four’ Premier League sides] have many more players than us. It has been hard for us to fight the other teams because they are a lot stronger and more competitive.
“You have to keep reminding young players not to think they’ve done enough in their life and their career.
“I think one of the biggest jobs is to keep everyone happy and motivated at Arsenal. Although we played some good football, we didn’t win anything.â€
As for Gilberto’s own future, the 31-year-old has reiterated his desire to stay at the club, although he admits Arsene Wenger has not revealed his intentions.
“I have no idea exactly what is going to happen, but I want to stay at Arsenal as I have one more year left,†Gilberto stated.
