Gilberto awarded Reading goal

Gilberto’s Goal Stands
The goal that Gilberto Silva claimed against Reading in Arsenal’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Reading on April 19th has been credited to the Brazilian midfielder by the League’s Dubious Goals Panel.
The Premier League’s Dubious Goals Panel reconvened for the final time this season to assess goals scored between April 12th and the end of the campaign.
Among the goals they considered Gilberto’s effort, the second goal in the Gunners’ 2-0 win against the Royals.
It was on the agenda because the World Cup winner’s long-range shot took a deflection off Andre Bikey as it flew beyond Reading’s American goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann.
The Panel decided that Gilberto’s shot was already goal-bound and thus credited the goal to the Brazilian World Cup winner. It was the 31-year-old midfielder’s solitary goal of the 2007/08 campaign – but his 24th altogether for the Gunners.
